2013

2013 Julian Jaynes Society Conference on Consciousness and Bicameral Studies

June 58, 2013, Charleston, West Virginia

In June 2013, the 2013 Julian Jaynes Society Conference on Consciousness and Bicameral Studies was held in Charleston, West Virginia. This was the largest conference entirely dedicated to Julian Jaynes's theory on consciousness and the bicameral mind ever held. The multidisciplinary program featured 26 speakers over three full days, including keynote talks by Professor Roy Baumeister, Professor Merlin Donald, and Dr. Dirk Corstens. The conference brought together Jaynes enthusiasts from around the U.S. as well as Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Netherlands, Thailand, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.

2012

Toward A Science of Consciousness

Tucson, Arizona, April 1014, 2012. Prof. Brian J. McVeigh presented a talk on Jaynes's theory titled "Hallucinations as Adaptation: Divine Voices, Visions, and Autoscopy as Neuropsychological Vestiges" on Wednesday, April 11 during the 4:30pm - 6:35pm "Evolution and Free Will" session. Paul Evans presented a poster related to Jaynes's theory and epigenetics.

An informal gathering of Jaynes enthusiasts was organized by Marcel Kuijsten and Prof. McVeigh.

Robert J. Sawyer - "Consciousness in Science Fiction" (Sat., April 17, 11:00am)
Science fiction writer Robert Sawyer will be one of the keynote speakers. Mr. Sawyer incorporates Jaynes's ideas into two of his novels: WWW: Wake and Mindscan.
