Abstract: Sitting for many years on the ethics committee of our medical center, I have come to recognize that when the details of a complex ethical issue are reviewed, examined from different perspectives, and discussed – i.e., “slowed down” – the analog appearance of the process often breaks down to reveal the digital, yes/no nature of our judgments.
