Schizophrenia as Timing Flaw
from realclearscience.com: http://tinyurl.com/9n829mg "Back in 2006, Eagleman and his team conducted an experiment in which subjects were simply asked to press a button. Doing so would instantly cause a nearby light bulb to blink. The researchers then added a slight tenth of a second delay betw...

Re: Robert E. Howard
Yes, the original stories are very entertaining reading. The clincher detail for me in the passage above was that Howard felt a presence behind him, similar to the reports of the "third man syndrome."

I've just found an interesting anectote about Robert E. Howard's writing process for the Conan stories, in the very interesting blog post "Teaching Conan: Barbarians, pseudo-Vikings, Wenches, and an Old School "Expanded Universe" by CG Olsen http://tinyurl.com/9ld7lu4 Robert E. Howard...

The really remarkable thing about Göbekli Tepe is the dating. It pushes the timeline back thousands of years before even Çatalhöyük.

Jerry Garcia's Gomorrah - A Jaynesian Interpretation
I was listening to the Jerry Garcia Band tune Gomorrah the other day and realized that the lyrics might be open to a Jaynesian interpretation. Here's a good rendition: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ozgPJZ7WUA The relevant passage starts at around the 1:40 mark. Usually when biblical themes crop up...

The story has a British Isles/Northern Europe setting; the most obvious source are the "familiars" from the folklore/mythology/witchcraft of that area: http://oaks.nvg.org/nord.html#fams https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Familiar In fact, there are many witch characters in the story. Pullman p...

I can imagine that workers in Antarctica would indeed experience severe culture shock. Culture shock and reverse culture shock are fascinating concepts to me, as I've had to deal with them my whole life. I'm a "third culture kid": http://www.amazon.com/Third-Culture-Kids-Growing-Revised/dp...

Re: Battlestar Galactica
Check it out, it's a great series. I hadn't though of it as bicameral while I was watching the show, even though I had read Jaynes a few years before. But discovering this forum and getting re-acquainted with Jaynes recently make it click. It now seems obvious to me that the show's writers and produ...

Re: "Divided Consciousness" by Ernest Hilgard
Interesting. I'll look up these titles.
Can you recommend any books on self-hypnosis in particular? The only books I've run across on the topic were very New Age-y and poorly written. I'd love to explore the topic with something more intellectually sound.

Battlestar Galactica and Julian Jaynes
Glad to have found this forum and site. Jaynes' book is one of the most fascinating and important books I've ever read. For my first post here, I'd like to say that I think the Gaius Baltar character from the Battlestar Galactica reboot could be seen as a portrayal of a bicameral mind. Baltar, a sci...
