Re: The Bicameral Body
After perusing your posts, it appears we have many similar thoughts and observations. I have two massive essays where I explore the scientific evidence related to this kind of thing: The Agricultural Mind , and The Crisis of Identity . There are psychosomatic diseases, probably to be observed in all...

Re: Bicameralism and Regality Theory
I must have missed this post. It's hard to keep track of new discussions. Then again, maybe I saw it earlier and didn't appreciate it at the time. I'm not sure when I first came across regality theory. But it stood out to me because, just a month or so ago, I mentioned it in a comment here at anothe...

Re: Timon Krause - Mentalist - Thesis
@Scrampy - I'm sorry for the delayed response. The project I was working on is wrapping up. I might have some free time this week. I'll be particularly curious to learn more about the collective cognitive imperative. As I think I mentioned, this point has long been less clear in my mind and I don't ...

Re: Jaynesian Psychology: Theories in Search of a Paradigm Shift
This is why, it could be argued, Jaynesian scholars need to seek mutual support and cross-pollination with scholars in certain other related fields that also take on an environmentalist and/or socio-cultural approach: philology, linguistic relativity, anthropology, media studies, etc. But this would...

Re: The Birth of Christianity from a Jaynesian Perspective: Faith as Consciously-interiorized Belief
That is an interesting post, if only initial thoughts. But I might sense where you could bring such an argument. All of what you described certainly played a role. I can say that as someone who has long been interested in early Christianity and the surrounding religious culture. You are correct abou...

Re: Welcome / Introductions
The world is a pretty crazy place, but the ideas and thoughts around this subject really do shed some light on the matter... and I find that mostly relieving. :) I agree. I find some amount of comfort in the understanding made possible by a Jaynesian approach. Actually, I see it as part of a larger...

Re: How Psyche Scaled Up over Time: Our Mental Architecture Undergirds Kinship and Political Systems
As for your several formulations, my view is in line with the third option: "psyche society (innate mental mechanics and historico-cultural forces inter-develop, not co-develop)." I'm glad to see you writing about this. This has been on my mind for years. But of what I've read, I don't ...

Re: The Prophet Mohammed, Islam, and the Bicameral Mind
This is a difficult discussion to have. You apparently are a believer in a specific religion and doctrine, whereas I'm agnostic toward all religions and doctrines. Not only is my critical view directed at Islam but also Christianity, Judaism, and all others. Most conventional Christians would be fee...

Re: Justin Mohn’s Deadly Delusions
That is an interesting thought. But I'm not sure what to think of it. I would imagine voice-hearing would've varied in numerous ways, depending on context, role, position, and relationship to others. The most interesting part is how people would've perceived their own voice-hearing. The Piraha exper...

Re: Pottery design patterns and the rise of individuality
Individuality and innovativeness seem to go together. The Piraha, for example, don't prize individualism. It's not that they favor enforced collectivism either. They more fit what some call dividualism. A Piraha member has autonomy, to the degree that is possible in a simple culture and few opportun...

Re: Timon Krause - Mentalist - Thesis
I'm in the middle of working on another project right now. I'm helping someone with a Master's paper they're writing. I'm quite preoccupied at the moment and it might be a while before I disentangle myself. So, I don't have the time to tackle reading what you linked. But I am curious. Could you summ...

Re: Consciousness and Time
About presentism, one of the most extreme examples I've come across that of the Piraha. Check out Daniel Everett's writings. Their sense of time is more like the bend in a river or a stream, or else like a flickering flame. Whatever is immediately there maintains their interest and awareness. But on...

Re: Welcome / Introductions
Yep. I'm easy to find online. The last time I checked, there are only two other people by my full name that show up to any great extent in web search results. One is an artist and the other is (or was) a World War II veteran. During the Aughts, I often went by MarmINFP or MarmaladeINFP. But in recen...

Re: Welcome / Introductions
Hello, Scrampy! Jaynes' book had a major influence on many of us. I think I first came across his book in the late 1990s. But I might not have read it until the early 2000s. Since then, I've read much of the other Jaynesian scholarship. But I sometimes get frustrated by the constraints of the field....
