Fictional Bicamerality

For any interested... Gene Wolfe's novel entitled Soldier of the Mist (Tor Books, 1987 and still in print) is the story of Latro, a soldier living in ancient Greece, whose characterization offers a superb example of a person living on the cusp of bicamerality and modern mentality, as well as of the ...

Re: New Member, Novelist with Work Based on Jaynes' Theory

Interesting, Clare. I do believe that I'll buy Ratha's stories for my daughter. Aptic Structures: Definition?

You might also read a description of the "Baldwin effect" (that over time learned behaviors can become instinctual through selection) which is somewhat related to Jaynes's notion of aptic structures. Thanks for your help. And I did do a bit of reading on The Baldwin Effect. Should any oth...

Aptic Structures: Definition?

Hi, all. Tucked away in a footnote in Origins is a reference to "aptic structures." Would someone please define this term for me as Jaynes intended it? And it's best to dumb it down since I'm no scientist. I'd appreciate hearing any comments, too, as to how these aptic structures ma...
