Re: Dennis Overbye in the NYTimes on Free Will and Conscious

Following Julian Jaynes and those who have bravely published supportive commentaries based on their own research and ideas, it seems reasonable to conclude that the lodging of an interpretive function in an abstract workspace that is not structurally localized will continue to dominate where-ever se...

Is Consciousness Adaptive?

Confusion over whether consciousness, as it has been manifested in our generation (I was born in 1950), indicates there has been some horribly misguided evolutionary mistake that can only lead to extinction, or whether consciousness, as we are just beginning to understand it, was the most eloquent o...

Re: Bible Evidence to Support Jaynes' Theory

1)to Adam's response I think all three is probably the best answer, and will add a fourth, but with specific reference to this territorial marker aspect of our arguments(I'm willing to concede on this one to facilitate our moving on!) I must caution you that we may be assigning to much authority to ...

Re: Ch. 1 - Julian Jaynes: Introducing His Life and Thought

Do not understand the lack of discussion of this topic. I have an intense curiosity about his plays and other theatrical activities and experience. I would also like to know a bit more about his activities and associates after his apparent estrangement from academia (that wilderness of confusion and...

Re: "Improvising Consciousness"

I think that there are several instances where the two types of thinkers confronted one another in Genesis/Exodus; the greatest of these may have been the struggle between Moses and Pharaoh!

Re: Consciousness vs. Perception

This occurs when you are out-of-doors on a sunny day; when you have found a comfortable seat somewhere in the shade. There is nothing on your mind to distract you from what is the beauty of this day, and the wonder of your leisure. There is a gentle breeze stirring, and you are in your comfort zone ...

Re: Eckhart Tolle?

When I picked up Tolle's book, I experienced an excitement of spirit that lasted 3 days(& it felt GOOD), but when he started explaining the pain body, all evaporated like vapor along with any further interest in his 'views!' Not so with Gurdjieff!

Re: Bible Evidence to Support Jaynes' Theory

THE SEPTUAGINT (Gr. oa 0', Lat. LXX.), or the "Alexandrian version of the Old Testament," so named from the legend of its composition by seventy (Lat. septuaginta), or more exactly seventy-two, translators. In the Letter of Aristeas to Philocrates 1 this legend is recounted as follows: Dem...

Welcome back all you Jaynes scholars! If you feel I could use some pointers for better utilizing the forums, go ahead and post them to this topic; I'm certainly in the 'lacks experience' category. The latest comments(which I assume will be read just above the current post/reply) have generated PM's ...

Re: NHI?

FICTION Fiction is the most powerful form of MAJICK commonly practiced(and socially accepted) in the modern time. To be fully functional(and thereby further empowered), it should be read aloud. Many popular titles can be obtained as audio files delivered in a variety of technological mediums(trucker...

I once had one of those music actuated screes running over my player when something Jimi Hendrix played crashed the player and the video tried to 'imagine' his sustained note; this was a God-moment for me!

Re: Bible Evidence to Support Jaynes' Theory

The sun is the living source of that from which knowers and knowledge are spawned. Light is a transport. And organismal reality arises in, and thrives due to the local consistent presence of this transport. The Sun is the source of those beings who assemble knowledge from form, and the more their me...
