Dear Everyone,

In Jaynes' book, it says "The changes in the Catholic Church since Vatican II can certainly be scanned in terms of this long retreat from the sacred which has followed the inception of consciousness into the human species."

I am not catholic myself, so I really don't know exactly what he means by that. Could somebody explain please?

Dustin, he's referring to Vatican II opening up some the forms of worship, increasing inclusiveness and generally being somewhat more receptive in its forms of worship to contemporary society... which Jaynes implies may continue to occur as a result of consciousness.
