Excerpt: Brendan Leahy: Can you start by telling us about Julian Jaynes’s background and how he became interested in the problem of consciousness?
Marcel Kuijsten: Sure. Julian Jaynes tells us that he first developed an interest in consciousness as a child. He relates a story about looking at a forsythia bush outside his family home in West Newton, which is outside of Boston, and wondering if the color of the bush that he perceived was the same color that was perceived by someone else. And so he held on to this single-minded purpose to understand consciousness throughout his life. …
