Effects of Early Experience Upon The Behavior of Animals

Frank A. Beach and Julian Jaynes, Psychological Bulletin, 1954, 51, , 239-263.

Abstract: Literature on the influence of early experience upon animal behavior is reviewed. While much of the evidence surveyed is “… equivocal and of undetermined reliability,” later or adult animal behavior is possibly affected by (1) persistence of habits formed in early life, (2) early perceptual learning, and (3) critical periods in development.
